Welcome to the Official Blog of the Naval War College Museum

Welcome to the Official Blog of the Naval War College Museum! The Naval War College was established in 1884 on Coasters Harbor Island in Newport, Rhode Island. Founder and first president, Rear Admiral Stephen B. Luce called the college, "a place of original research on all questions relating to war and to statesmanship connected with war, or the prevention of war."

The Naval War College Museum, located in Founders Hall, the original site of the college, is one of twelve official museums administered by the Naval History and Heritage Command. Exhibits focus on the history of the Navy in Narragansett Bay through the United States Civil War, the Naval Training Station, the Naval Torpedo Station and the Naval War College (1884-Present). The museum also features a new gallery devoted to naval and maritime art and a temporary exhibit space with rotating exhibits on military history and art.

The purpose of this blog will be to engage our community with relevant information on museum activities. Readers may look forward to artifact research blogs, education program articles, staff and volunteer profiles, historical essays, and more.
